leviticus, plans for 2012.

Well plans are starting to fall into place to build up my Leviticus. Thanks to my future father in law in am now the owner of a hooded rider, so will trial him out with levi once he's built, and he will also be a useful model for the lilith crew I'm planning. A nice melee focused minion that will work well with lilith and the doppelganger, which are the only two other neverborn models I own. Will probably have to be some more hollow waits, ashes and dust and more abominations before pick up dead and mechanical riders, though our local resser player had the dead rider so I can always borrow him to try out. But we will see does depend on when the pale rider is out, as I'm first and foremost a guild player he will be an essential purchase as soon as he is out.

Well its that time again, to plan what I want to do this year hobby wise, firstly malifaux as my guild is currently 100% complete and mostly painted, other than the new releases for this year, I am looking to complete the plan of having a crew for every faction, this means my Leveticus crew will get finished with more steampunk abominations, hollow waits, canine remains and ashes and dust, then when the avatar is out I will look at getting the 4 riders.
As for the other factions, for Neverborn I will be going with Lilith, Arcanists will probably be Collette and for Ressers it will likely to be Nicodem.

As I've started to get back into WFB, my dwarfs are again on the agenda, I want to pick up a battalion then a grudge trowr or two and get everything painted if possible before the new releases or new book which will hopefully be this year.

thoughts on avatar justice

Well j have finally gotten in my first game with avatar justice, firstly I like the model far better than the publicity photos, the beefy chin from the angle at least in the pre release photos wasn't flattering, but its nice in reality. The model as a whole was well designed, it fit easily together and apart from a slight twist in the ram arm whilst securely padded en route back from firestorm there's been no issues, I may well leave her there to prevent further damage once she's been painted, based and varnished as she could be fragile if my case gets dropped.
First game with her was against avatar Seamus, she did well, mainly using her avatars buffing to protect her crew, the mark of balance: crow is very nice indeed, didn't play as much of a hoard crew as I'd of liked with her, had 3 seven ss models in executioner, Nino and judge. Will take less next time, played with Perdita for The first time too (it was a 45ss brawl), she was good too, culminating in blowing away avatar Seamus, obeying Judge to use bullets and blades was a very good combo, with a decent hand on masks and a family obey spam list could really put the hurt out. Will be using avatar justice in my next few games to test her out against a variety of masters and schemes.

Well after not blogging for a while there is some progress, the Guild hoard is virtually complete, I just have Avatar Justice to pick up today and around Christmas I will pick up Avatar Sonnia, Exorcist, Sue and possibly another Sue to convert as an 2nd Exorcist, which will complete it until the next batch of minis when Perdita comes out in Feb/March I cant remember which.

The next master for me unless I change my mind is Lilith, i'm planning Lilith, Nicodem and Collette or Marcus as my Non-Guild crews along with Levi, though especially Marcus and Nicodem will wait until their Alternative miniatures are released.

Well a month or so on and the Guild Hoard is complete, well bought and built but not yet painted, I now own every guild model and I plan to keep that up with the next batch of releases. While I am getting these painted I am now looking at my demo crews now im a shiny new Wyrd Henchman, obviously I have a lot of variability in my guild however I want a crew from each faction though my current Leveticus is a bit too complex for a demo crew so i will need a new outcast crew for that, so far the purchases look like this.

Last weekend I also participated in a one day tournie in Bristol at Cut and Thrust Wargaming in Bristol, currently I finished at 11/20 (I think a review of the results was due because of a mix up) not bad considering I drew 2 and lost 2, but the losses were fairly tight which helped, some cracking games too, 25ss was a challenge compared to the usual 35ss, and the store and terrain were fantastic. Thanks to Rudders too(http://rudders-modellife.blogspot.com/), he has given me his Dead Justice to paint as my Gencon order has been delayed and I will give him mine when it arrives.

Well after a bit of decision making the plans for the Guild Hoard are coming to fruition. Dead Justice will be ordered with Twisting Fates during Gencon, Perdita's crew will be bought tomorrow, the Hoffman or Lucius for my birthday in late august with the other following the month after, which will then give me october free for additions such as more watchers and minions before november and Lady Justice's avatar and alternate are released with hopefully some more guild stuff, which will set me up nicely for christmas and a new faction, possibly the seamus gang I have been promising my self since I started, but we will see how the new releases shape up, Hopefully Ashes and Dust will be avaialble after Kaeris and Molly so I can actually run a Desolation list for my Levi.

Well Deliverance 2011 has come and gone, I had a cracking weekend, not only did I do far better than I thought I would (coming 9th of 19) I got to play some masters I had next to no experience of playing such as Seamus, Rasputina and Collette. Deliverance Part 5

Well having just bought a 2nd Austringer and the Sonnia box is in the middle of painting, everything is set up nicely for Deliverance in 10 days. The only thing really to do is the basing which I will be doing tomorrow before work. I have also repainted the Judge as the White coat wasnt looking right, so he's now in a Brown Coat and Jeans rather than a White Coat and Brown Trousers.

Im now just getting to gether the last of what I need for Deliverance, I hope to play one of the scenarios next Tuesday just to get my eye in, as well as picking up a Puppet Deck ready for the day.

Well i've now bought the Sonnia box set which nicely came with a Miss Pack, which will help if and when I ever do a Zorida or McMourning crew. I tried out the Witchling Stalkers in one game so far and they worked well as a nice flanking distraction from LJ and the rest of the crew. Will be trying them out with either Sonnia or LJ this evening at Firestorm Games. They are all blocked out in colours its just the detail I really need to work on, as well as the other Austringer I still need to buy.

Will definately work on Leviticus after Deliverance, just need 3 Necropunks, a Desolation Engine and another Hollow Waif to begin with. Ive proxied this crew and it worked very effectively.

Deliverance Part 3 and plans for afterward

Well after some more painting, i'm starting to get things sorted for Deliverance in 6 weeks. Only a couple more purchases to make. Firstly the Sonnia Criid boxset, mainly for the 3 Witchling Stalkers which will fit in witht he close combat side of LJ very well, secondly Samael Hopkins will give me a boost on the mid-range shooting. If I get the chance I want to pick up a second Guild Austringer as one just isn't enough against certain Master's.These would give me a good 100-110 soulstone worth of models to use for the tournament.

I've also got to decide which faction to go with after Deliverance as I want a break from the Guild after 7 months of solid playing. The options currently are Leviticus, McMourning, Seamus, Lilith or Colette.

Malifaux: the Hoard grows & the road to Deliverence

Well after neglecting the blog some more, im back. My Malifaux Guild hoard has grown substantially larger, leaving my Leviticus crew still just at the box set level, this will likely continue until after my first Malifaux tournament 'Deliverence' at Firestorm Games, Cardiff in late June, where i will be running Lady Justice as my master and i wan't a big a pool of models as possible to suit each game and opponent though i have been tempted with Seamus and his Belles can work well with Levi, i will see what takes my fancy in the long run. Here's a run-down of the guild i have with their cost or cache in brackets. Well i think the blog needed a bit of an overhaul which i will be implementing and testing over the coming weeks. Im shifting the focus back primarily to my chaos, so i thought the blog should change too, 13 years of primarily khornate armies for chaos does have its influence.

Well my Inquisitor and retinue is virtually built. I say retinue there are enough for a few diffrent builds depending on what role i use her for. Currently with the latest Inquisition rumours regarding the hopefully forthcoming Grey Knights i am holding off somewhat on buying my storm troopers, i have decided to focus for the short term on expanding the Ecclesiarchical side of my Witch Hunters, i have bought an Immolator/Rhino as well as the first box of Flagellents to convert into Zealots. I am planning a full unit of twenty with 2 flamers and 4 fanatics with Eviscerators for a grand total of 172 points, it will hit reasonably hard in combat with the eviscerators, and will act as a good meat shield or speed bump as required. Hopefully i will have some pictures up soon now i have my camera back.

Damn Internet

Well after numerous internet problems i finally have a partial service back. So i can finally update my blog.

The initial 2k WoC list i have been using has worked a treat. Especially the Warshrine, it has worked far better than i imagined that it would. Both in terms of the boost it gives to units as well as its physical presence.

Well now is the next decision which army shall i plan to build either the foot WoC, Infantry heavy Daemons or Beastmen for fantasy. Im still planning the non-imperial decision for 40k as well as redeveloping my Witchunters.

Planning Warriors of Chaos Part 4

Well I have now bought and built most of my 2000point list from this post http://ironhands-ironhearts.blogspot.com/2009/12/planning-warriors-of-chaos-part-3.html. I only have the Warshrine left to plan, buy and build. Now here is the issue, I have two ideas for the warshrine.

The first is a simple modification of the High Elf Lion Chariot, with both White Lions merged together into a Black, Two-Headed, Flaming Mutant Lion pulling the chariot base with a mound of skulls and an icon of Khorne with a Warrior made from Harry the Hammer with marauder horsemen arms and the classic Khorne Hero head.

The second is a more elaboarate idea based off the chassis for the screaming bell/plague furnace, with a spawn or two pulling the shrine and a similar skulls/icon to the first idea.

I will muse further on the design and try to post more detailed ideas/pictures.

Well here is the first update in a while. Ive just not had much painting time with work ect. Ive done a bit more on my Khorne Lord/Hero, ive also started work on 5 Knights and 2x5 Marauder Horsemen with Flails and Musicians, these are very WIP, only the base colours on these are done and blocked out ready to be blended and highlighted up.

For my Iron Hands this is a simple and much underused choice, Close Combat Scouts. I tend to run a full unit of ten including a Sergeant with a Power Fist, it is a bargain for a whole 165pts. They are so versatile and are a ideal speed bump, especially as mine tend to be Stubborn (via Lysander or Pedro), couple that with Pedro's Inspiring Presence and they have 36 WS3 S4 attacks and 4 WS4 S8 Power Fist attacks on the charge, its enough to put a serious dent in almost any unit.

Considering my Dwarfs this again is a simple choice a unit of 18 Ironbreakers. This provides a good solid heart to my forces, couple that with a runic banner and either a Lord or BSB and they are very hard to shift.

My Lord/Hero is starting to come along, the main colurs are blocked out and i am now planning to build up the layering especially on the red and brass. I decided on red armour over the black more through personal choice especailly as it works well with the brass juggernaut.

This is the first wip of my lord/hero for my WoC army.

I decided to have my Juggernaut primarily in Brass to fit in within its Brass Behemoth rule with silver piping and chainmail. I plan to use Red as a spot colour on any icons of Khorne and Chaos.

My lord will either be in red or black armour i havent yet finalised which i will choose.

Anhur the Black's Death Eaters (v.4)

Well after 4 years i am finally going back to my Warriors of Chaos. I first played them in 5th Edition with a joint Khorne/Tzeench army, then i progressed to a pure Khorne Army. When Hoards of Chaos was released i did another small Khorne Army. Well after several months i have finally started playing Fantasy again. I had a good game with my Magic Defence Dwarfs against a Magic/Shooting heavy Tzeench Daemons (it was a list designed to take on a Vilitch, Magic heavy Tzeench Warriors of Chaos list, a game which is now delayed untill next week). I had a good solid victory, my 3 main blocks (Ironbreakers, Longbeards and Warriors) were cut down to well below half, but they broke 50 horrors despite a hail of Magic and Fire whilst my Cannons, Flame Cannon and Goblin Hewer took out the 3 Disc Heralds, Flamers and Bluescribes. I think i shall try and altrernate more frequently between 40k and Fantasy.

Speaking of Fantasy i am now delaying the planned Beasts of Chaos until next year, i have decided to reboot the Warriors of Chaos i played in 5th and 6th Edition. I have bought the Khorne Lord on Juggernaut to paint whilst i plan and develop the army list. I have also plans to start this at 2k as well as developing 2k of Daemons then 2k of Beasts all dedicated to Khorne.

Grailsword Part 6 & Update

Well i have decided to focus on the Grailsword crusade rather than Contqual mainly because little has been said on this compared to Contqual so i can let it progress how i want rather than being constrained by the set ideas, this will also help with any stories and pieces i write for the project. Therefore i will be expanding the ideas from just the Iron Hands into the Eldar, Red Talons and Brazen Claws in the near future.

I have also (just about) decided on a new fantasy army in Nurgle Beasts of Chaos, i will probably start this in anticipation of the new Army Book expected in Q1 2010 starting with some Pestigor as i really like the models. The only things that would change this would be if Tomb Kings were definately a release for next year or if the new Skaven Army Book gives options for themed and Clan focused armies.

Well after a brief hiatus to move home i finally have decent access to the internet and to my Fantasy/40k. This post is really just a planning post to focus my goals on what i want to achieve over the coming months. Now in no particular order.

1. Work more on the Grailsword/Contqual project
2. Finish painting my Iron Hands
3. Convert a more Bionic 'Lysander'
4. Finally decide on a new Fantasy army
5. Start planning my Ad Mech additions properly (I already have a magos i use as a counts-as Inquisitor, but i want to create another one as well as a tech-priest assassin based from the Horus Heresy: Collected Visions)

WIP Counts-As Lysander

Here is a quick WIP of my counts-as Lysander. He has bionic legs built from plasticard rods. The Terminator body came from the free Terminator from WD, the shoulder pads are the Dark Angel Dreadnought Shin Pads, the cape from the CSM Terminator Lord boxset, the arms are from the CC Terminarot boxset. He's not too bad, but he will suffice until i can convert a better model for 'Lysander', i am planning one with 4 bionic limbs, and the rest of his body will be largely scratch built.

I have been mulling over some possible Iron Hands Chapter Tactics, i have thought about 2 possible tactics, one im thinking is for the Iron Father and the other for either the Clan Commander or a Venerated Dreadnought.

Tactic One
If you include (x) than all units in the Iron Hands army lose the Combat Tactics special rule. Instead, all HQ choices, Techmarines and Sergeants gain the Feel No Pain USR. If more than one character in your army has the Chapter Tactics special rule, you must choose which version will apply.

Tactic Two

I have always planned to develop a ruleset for the Iron Hands fitting in with the new style of Chapter Tactics as the Iron Hands are the only first founding chapter to not be represented in any of the current codices. I had inspiration firstly in the form of the Bell of Lost Souls recent Badab War campaign pack as well as re-reading part of the novel Iron Hands. I have now decided to develop something similar, a campaign either based upon the Grailsword campaign mentioned in the novel, or one based on the Purging of Contqual from the Index Astartes III book (and more recently in C:SM).

Very little has been mentioned about the Grailsword campaign other than the fact it is against the Eldar, and features the Iron Hands, Brazen Claws and the Red Talons Space Marine Chapters. This gives me good scope to put my own ideas to the campaign. If i choose Grailsword i plan to do three characters for each of the Chapters, some supporting Imperial characters as well as several Xenos characters.

Contqual would give me some other options, firstly being able to focus purely on the Iron Hands (marine wise) as well as adding Inquisition, Guard and Mechanicus elements. It would also give me scope for Traitor Guard, CSM and Daemons on the Chaos side.

This will take some time, but i will post what i can as and when things develop.

After somewhat neglecting my blog for some time i thought it was about time i restarted it. Im starting from scratch and aim to post at least twice weekly on my days off.

Currently i am working on one army for 40k my Iron Hands Space Marines. I am also planning a new fantasy army as well as a new 40k army. Im planning either Dark Eldar, Eldar or Orks for 40k depending on how my final thoughts go and what theme to follow. For fantasy i am planning either Ogre Kingdoms or Beasts/Warriors of Chaos, something a bit different to my Wood Elves and Dwarfs.
